Project Objectives

  1. To create improved and alternative livelihood opportunities through optimum utilization of local available resources for 2000 resource poor families (BPL) in selected villages in Kalaghatgi & Hubli Taluks of Dharwad district.
  2. To increase the agricultural productivity through promotion of appropriate technologies.
  3. To improve the social and economic condition of women and other socially challenged sections.
  4. To promote self-reliance by building peoples’ capacity through formation of peoples’ organisations and establishment of community managed systems.

The key activities of the project are :

  • Formation of peoples organizations/strengthening the existing peoples organizations to plan and implement project activities.
  • Enhancing livelihoods through promotion of agri-horti-forestry(Tree based farming system) which includes land development, rain water harvesting, plantation of forestry trees, plantation of horticulture trees, promotion of nurseries for improved livelihoods.
  • Promotion of rainfed sericulture for improved livelihoods.
  • Promotion alternative livelihood opportunities/Rural non-farm sector enterprises.
  • Infrastructure for value addition and income generation.
  • Establishment of a mobile Artificial Insemination centre to provide improved   breeding service at the  farmers door step.
  • Training and awareness activities for the project participants.
